The Start of the Paints

Updated: Feb 2, 2023

The paints are back!

Diamond K Ranch had paints shorty after they started raising Quarter Horses, but dispersed them in 2000. After some soul searching, we have decided to add them back!

When we were looking for a new APHA sire, we were not looking for a Western Pleasure prospect only. We wanted something that was going to cross well with our mares in a variety of disciplines. We purchased More Then A Crush in 2018 with the hopes of adding size, and colour, with the added bonus of Lazy Loper bloodlines to our mares. We purchased More Then A Crush with plans of campaigning him down the road. Those plans were soon misdirected by the pandemic. We made lemonade out of lemons and bred two mares to Spud that year, it resulted in two beautiful, coloured up fillies. Both were shown in the 2021 Canadian Colours Futurity successfully. RGR Eternally Golden was selected as the 2021 CCF Late Futurity Champion and RGR Crushin On Lucy placed respectfully.

In 2022 Spud also sired RGR Imma A Knock, Maverick is arguably one of his best foals to date! The excitement we have over this young colt is hard to contain. We look forward to growing together this winter and hopefully campaigning him this summer! Maverick was the 2022 CCF Late Colt Champion.

Our second APHA sire is RGR Sharp Dressed Man. This young Overo stallion has us very excited about the future! We love that our stallions represent and are from our own breeding program. Billy is a direct son out of a up and coming broodmare. JT Miss Smokin Jose(His Dam) was the 2015 Saskatchewan 50/50 futurity Overall Champion, also winning the Halter and Western Pleasure divisions, with a very close Reserve in the Pattern portion. We believe the foals of this young sire will be true all around prospects! Take them to the local fair on the weekend, the rope pen during the week and hit the trail in your free time! This guy was a very easy start and is as smooth as a Cadillac!

Thank you for taking interest in out APHA journey! We look forward to growing our paints, and developing them into the horses we know they can be. They are the same as our Quarter Horse foals, just with a splash of colour!
